Almost Stuck in Iowa

Last weekend I missed my plane. Flying from Cedar Rapids to San Diego California. I thought my flight left at 11:59am, so I took my time and ended up at the airport around 10:30. Pleeeeeeeenty of time right? WRONG! My flight left at 8am and the 11:59 was my connecting flight in Minneapolis. Standby had over 25 people on the list so basically that meant I was screwed. I could return Monday morning at 8am but that’s a boring 24 hour wait and a $100 change fee to change my ticket. Talk about lame. So I heard a little somethin somethin about taking your ticket and trading it in at another airline. I hit them all up but they were booked, and then I got to American Airlines (or American Eagle, I don’t know what their exact name is). They got me on a plane that left in 20 minutes and for how much? The price of FREE! Yes! They told me that they’ll just give the ticket to NWA and they’d buy it outright.

A few longs layovers, a cab ride home, and I come home to find 3 tickets from the city of San Diego @ $47 each. What!? Yeah talk about adding insult to ‘almost’ injury. I didn’t have my wheels turned into the curb on the hill. I didn’t even know that was a law. Yeah I’ll be fighting those tickets. Because of the money? No, because it’s the principal of the matter. I don’t agree with so many tickets. It makes me upset.

The moral of the story… if you miss your plane don’t get screwed by the man, just hit up the competitors until you find a seat. And screw those traffic cops, fight those tickets too.

Repairing scratched DVDs that have problems playing.

I did this experiment and it works.

1. First I use an optical cloth (purchased for $3-5 at a glasses store like Pearle Vision) and the optical cleaning spray. I spray the DVD with a light mist, and then use the soft optical cloth to clean off the DVD surface. You should pull it away from the center toward the outer edge of the DVD. This will reduce any further damage. Pull in a straight line, never go around in a circle to clean the DVD. Once dry, try to see if the DVD works now. If it doesn’t, move onto step 2.

2. Once clean I take some regular toothpaste (YES! Toothpaste!). You’re using this as a polish. I put some toothpaste on my finger and rub it on the scratched surface area. I usually end up covering about 1/5 of the DVD surface. Then I let it dry.

Troy Smith threw two touchdown passes to Anthony Gonzalez and ran for another score and No. 8 Ohio State’s defense shut down No. 21 Iowa in a 31-6 victory Saturday.

Iowa (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten) finished with 18 rushes for minus 9 yards as A.J. Hawk and Mike Kudla each were credited with 1 1/2 sacks for 15 yards in losses. The Buckeyes harassed Iowa quarterback Drew Tate all day, sacking him five times for minus 43 yards.

Biodiesel anyone?

Thank god:

Petrochemical plants that supply a quarter of the nation’s gasoline suffered only a glancing blow, with just one major plant facing weeks of repairs. (from Yahoo)

I don’t think I could handle $5 a gallon for gas. We’re not Europe for a reason!

Hog the bandwidth!

Here’s a link I’ve had for a while. It has 622 different music videos. It’s kinda like MTV, except it has music videos. And you can pick the good ones instead of the crappy videos they do play on MTV between the hours of 2am and 6am.

JetBlue Aircraft Update: technology on planes sucks

In kind of an ironic twist, the JetBlue passengers were able to watch their own situation unfold on their Direct TV. Ugh.
