I was reading about the graduation rate for college football players and the NCAA site has a big database of Division I Graduation Success Rate (GSR) Data but it seems a little outdated. Anyway, it’s spans over 1998-2001 and the graduation rate for Iowa Hawkeyes football players was 75%. Not bad compared to other colleges (*cough* *cough* Iowa State University had only 55%).

The top college with the most football players graduation was Notre Dame with 94% while Arizona came in last at a weak 41%.

The data for the University of Iowa is pretty interesting. From the PDF I read, here are the GSR details for the University of Iowa:

Baseball: 95%
Basketball: 46%
CC/Track: 86%
Football: 75%
Golf: 56%
Gymnastics: 83%
Swimming: 85%
Tennis: 100%
Wrestling: 70%

See all of the data yourself at the NCAA site. See how all the college football programs match up at fanblog.com

Women have a lot of things going on these days. They often work, care for the family, and have to juggle so many things into their busy schedule. That’s where you can be her knight in shining armor! Here are some ways how you can pamper your special lady and relieve some of her stress.

Spoil her for an evening

Surprise her with a dinner at home. Send your kids and nanny at the grandparent’s house and have plans for the evening. Prepare a dinner for two in your house, cook her favorite foods and buy her favorite wine. Give also a small gift, a cheap one but can make her smile. Spend the night with a light music. Take her to a sweet dance while your favorite song is being played. But if you really don’t know how to cook, well… you can take her out to her favorite restaurant.

Before going to sleep, make sure that you give her a bubble bath. Put some scented relaxing candles lit on the bathroom. Let her soak in the water, you can join her if you want to. If not, prepare the bedroom and make sure that it is clean and dim lighted. Light some aromatic candles to make it more romantic. Massage her with scented aromatherapy oil while the soft music is going. I’m sure she’ll give you a reward for the effort.

Give her charge of the remote once in awhile

I know it’s not a romantic thing again, but it sure feels good for a woman to have the privilege of holding that remote control and having the say in what you watch together. When a man surrenders the remote, it’s a true sign of humility and respect. She may be so touched by your gesture that she will actually turn to Basketball Channel.

Share the chores

Not only romantic things fall on the category of pampering. You can also help her to lighten up her daily load by helping her on her chores like, doing the laundry, washing the dishes, walking the dogs, watering the plants, cooking food, bringing the kids to school. Sometimes men would say that those are woman’s job but marriage is partnership and sharing. You will not do all the chores, just help her doing it.

And finally, the most important thing is to ask her what she wants!

Men always assume that they really know their partner. But at the end, she was just waiting for you to ask what she really wants. There’s nothing so comforting to woman than being listened t by her partner, but men don’t’ have patience in listening. In order to have a good relationship, it is important to have a good communication. Learning to listen with you partner will make her feel very important and respected. And if there’s importance and respect, there’s love.

Also, keep a journal of what you’ve done and what she likes. This way you can refer to it in the future when you decide to do some pampering on short notice and can’t think of any ideas.

Though not an extremely large state, at 56,000 square miles, Iowa is first in corn and soybean production and also is first in hog production. It is a flat state located between the great North American rivers, the Mississippi on the east, and the Missouri River on the west. The Iowa caucuses are an early political event in the quest for the presidency. That alone may give you an idea for your Iowa Incorporation. After all, billions of dollars go to political consultants each election year and the huge media impact of this event is well known.

Iowa is a strongly agricultural state, and also has historically and still to some extent presently, the production of farm implements, washing machines, refrigerators and processed foods. Its industrial outputs are food processing, machinery, electric equipment, chemical products, nd primary metals. Iowa produces the nation’s largest amount of ethanol for gasoline. Des Moines also serves as a center for the insurance industry.

Council Bluffs Iowa is across the Missouri River from Omaha, Nebraska, and is part of the Omaha metropolitan area, with a population of over 800,000 in the two states. Council Bluff has become a major center of gambling casinos. Casinos in the city include Harrah’s and Horseshoes. Davenport in the eastern part of the state is on the Mississippi River across from the city of Moline, Illinois and is also known for its casinos. It is one of the Quad Cities in Iowa and Illinois. John Deere Corporation has for a long time made tractors, lawnmowers and other machinery in the area, first with a plant in Davenport, and more recently in a plant across the river in Moline, Illinois. John Deere has become a multi-national corporation but still produces much of its equipment in the United States, including in Waterloo, Davenport and Dubuque, Iowa, and in Moline in Illinois. Davenport has had a certain amount of problems due to its lack of levees to protect it from floods from the Mississippi River. An interesting nearby site is the Quad City Botanical Center, across the river in Rock Island, Illinois. These large gardens contain both local plants and tropical plants in large hothouses.

Many insurance companies are headquartered in Des Moines, including the Principal Financial Group, Nationwide, Aviva, and American Republic Insurance Company. Principal is a Fortune 500 company that has its headquarters in Des Moines. As a center of financial and insurance services, other major corporations headquartered outside of Iowa have established a presence in Des Moines such as Wells Fargo, ING Group, and Electronic Data Systems.

Cedar Rapids is home to several large businesses and industries, including in food processing, General Mills, Cargill, Quaker Oats, and Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). Hi-tech and computer companies have also moved into Cedar Rapids and other towns in Iowa. At the center of the city is a famous large modern art metal sculpture known as the Tree of the Five Seasons, which is a three-dimensional form of the city’s logo. Near the center of the city is the Czech Village, and area that has maintained the identity of ethnic Czech businesses. There is also the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library in the area.

Okay you’re probably going “WTF is THIS!?” but hey, don’t knock it until you try it. This is a recipe for making a unique food from the Philippines that will surely leave an impression on your dinner guests! Kare-kare is a Philippine stew. It is made from peanut sauce with a variety of vegetables, stewed oxtail, beef, and occasionally offal or tripe. No Filipino fiesta is complete without some flavorful kare-kare. In some Filipino-American versions of the dish, oxtail is exclusively used as the meat.

Kare-kare (Ox tail in peanut butter sauce)

Ingredients:

1 pc 0x tail (1 ½ kilo)
10 cup boiling water
10 cup cold water
1 head garlic, crushed
2 pcs onion, minced
4 pcs tomato minced
2 tbsp annato
1 cup tap water
4 tablespoon peanut butter
1 peanut butter sauce
½ K of Bokchoy
¼ K green beans, cut into 1″ long
½ K hyacinth bean, cut in 2″ crosswise
½ K Winged beans, cut in 2″ long and thick
1 pc long string beans, cut in 2″ long and thick
1 pc eggplant cut in 2″ long and thick
1 pc banana heart, cut in 2″ long and thick
1 head cabbage, cut in 2″ long and thick
3 tbsp of cooking oil
salt to taste

For the Ox Tail

1. Put the cut ox tail in a boiling water.
2. Let it simmer for 7-10 mins.
3. Drain the ox tail.
4. Clean the ox tail, remove the hair from the skin.
5. Wash again and rinse thoroughly.

Saute’ the Ox tail

1. Saute’ garlic, onion and tomatoes in cooking oil.
2. Cover and simmer for 3 minutes.
3. Stir Occasionally.
4. Add the ox tail.
5. Cover and simmer for another 3 minutes.

The last procedure:

In a pot, pour in the sauteed ox tail. Pour in the cold water and cover. Cook it in a very high fire. When it is already boiling, stir it and lower the fire. Cover and simmer until tender. Stir it occasionally until the bottom of the pot to avoid the ox tail from sticking. When the oxtail is tender, add the peanut sauce (kare-kare sauce). Mix the annato in a cup of water and drain the colored mixture, Add the mixture on the pot with the ox tail. When it is boiling add the hyacinth beans, winged beans, long string beans and Banana heart. Cover and simmer for mins. Add the peanut butter, stir and add green beans and eggplant. Cove and wait for 3 mins. Then add the cabbage, bokchoy, season with salt to taste. Stir it and lower the fire. Let simmer for another 3 mins. Serve hot with Sauteed shrimp paste.

Enjoy!

It’s no secret that health insurance can cost an arm and a leg. For many people health insurance is so expensive that they are simply forced to go without it at all.

Obviously if you are offered health insurance at work or if you can obtain health insurance at group rates through some organization that you belong to, then you should probably look into such coverage since group insurance rates are almost always lower than individual rates - plus a group insurance may accept pre-exiting conditions more readily than an individual policy will.

For more and more people, especially those working out of their homes, group insurance rates simply aren’t an option. Fortunate there are still a few things you can do to keep your rates on the low side.

First and foremost, do not smoke. If you already smoke then you need to stop. You need to stop using chew, snuff or any other form of tobacco product. Period. People who do not use tobacco products pay far less for their health insurance.

Everyone knows how difficult it is to lose weight, but if you are overweight you are considered a greater health risk and so you will pay a higher monthly health insurance premium. Losing even a little weight may bump you down into a lower payment bracket, so anything you can do may save you money for years to come.

Don’t participate in dangerous or extreme sports or hobbies. If you routinely participate in dangerous activities then you will either have to pay a higher insurance premium, or your extreme activity will be excluded from your coverage.

Similarly, driving a high-powered car or a sports car can also increase your health insurance premiums each month. Anything that increases the chances of your filing a health claim will increase your monthly premium.

The percentage of your co-pay will greatly influence how much your premium is. Every time you visit a doctor’s office or have other health care you are expected to pay a certain percentage of the bill in cash at the time of your visit. If you increase the amount of your co-pay then you will reduce your monthly premium. This can work out especially well for people who do not see a doctor on a regular schedule.

One of the biggest determinants for the cost of your monthly health insurance premium is your deductible - the amount of money that you will pay each year out of your own pocket before you trouble your insurance company to begin making payments. The higher your deductible the lower your monthly premium. Again, this works best for people who are generally healthy and rarely require medical care each year.

An extreme form of this is to purchase a health insurance policy with a super-high deductible of $2,000 or even $3,000. Such policies are very inexpensive and are designed to protect your home or other assets in the event that you suffer an unexpected catastrophic accident or illness that racks up medical bills in the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in the blink of an eye.

Now that you know what some of your money-saving options are it’s time for you to go online and start comparing different health insurance polices from a variety of different insurance companies so you can find the one that’s right for you at a price that you can afford.

Take your time and make comparisons on at least 3 different websites. In this way you can be certain that you are seeing the best prices from all the companies operating in Iowa and you can be absolutely sure that you have saved money and gotten the best discount health insurance available in Iowa.

Going to the beach is fun, but don't forget the dangers of the sun! Here are some helpful tips for a healthy afternoon at the beach.

During your next trip to the Caribbean while you’re lounging around on the beach, sunbathing, and swimming in the warm ocean, remember that the Sun can be damaging if you don’t take the necessary precautions.

There’s nothing wrong with covering up or taking breaks inside during the Sun’s peak time. Here are some simple precautions to help protect your skin from the pleasant, but possibly harmful sun.

1. Sunscreen - You should purchase a sunscreen protection lotion with a high level of Sun Protection Factor (SPF), the higher the SPF the better it can protect you from the harmful effect of sunlight. You must know how to apply the lotion properly, read the label from the bottle, and apply the lotion to the exposed area of your skin.

2. Put your lotion atleast 20-30 minutes before going outdoors to ensure that the lotion work on your skin already. And about your lips, you should also protect it by using a lip balm that offers protection from the sun.

3. Don’t forget the most sensitive part of your skin like feet, ears, neck and hands. Neglecting them can result in sunburn.

4. Don’t expose yourself especially during the hottest part of the day from 11am to 3pm. You should get some extra shade. This is when sunbathing can increase the chances of damaging your skin.

5. Don’t be afraid to cover yourself, wear something that can protect you from the sum. A big round hat will do and a loose long sleeves. Any protection will be good.

Cleaning the bathroom is the most important things that every person should know.

Cleaning the bathroom is the most important things that every person should know. Here’s what you need to do so you can have a clean bathroom.

Put the toiletries and all the items in the bathroom in their respective places o they are not scattered all over the bathroom. Close all the cabinets and take out the empty bottles out of the bathroom, especially those that does not belong on the bathroom. Put all the dirty clothes and towels on the hamper. Put on your rubber gloves.

Next, you should start on your toilet. Put on bleach or toilet bowl cleaning solution. Be careful for some of bleach can cause suffocation and strong odors. Let the solution stays for 20-30 minutes. Wait for the bleach to sit it.

Sweep the floor. Bathrooms accumulate a great deal of hair and other detritus. Use a rubber bristle broom to get the dirt between tiles.Wipe all the hair on the tub using a paper towel. Wipe a cleaning solution on the tub and on your shower walls. Wash the mildew on the anti-slip tub. Soak it on a hot water and add some bleach. Scrub the bathtub as well. Don’t forget the shower curtain; it is also prone to mildew. You can soak it on hot water and spray it on a part where there mildew. If it is washable, wash it on a washing machine. Once the washing is done, rinse the tub and the shower with hot water. Hot water dries faster.

Now it’s time to start cleaning the sink and counter area. You may use whichever cleaning product you used on the tub, but use it sparingly as it is harder to rinse the soap off a counter. Scrub all the soap scum and tooth paste off, rinsing your sponge thoroughly as you go along. A toothbrush or cotton swabs can be handy for getting the junk out from between the tap and handles. Never use the same rag or paper towel you used in cleaning the toilet. This can spread leftover disease-causing germs to your sink and counter area.

Then return to the toilet, scrub all the dirt with a toilet brush, getting the solution-infused bowl water under the rim. Spray the rim and lid of the bowl with the same cleanser you used on your tub and sink. Wipe or use disinfectant towelettes, much easier for getting all the nooks and crannies of the seat and lid. If you are concerned about germs on the outside of the bow just spray a bit of your bleach-water solution on to the surface and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping. Always wear gloves when cleaning your toilet & only use those gloves for cleaning the bathroom. Don’t use the same that you use in the kitchen. It can cause cross contamination & could make you & your family very ill. It is also a good idea to use paper towels when wiping the exterior of the toilet so you can dispose of them after use.

Wash the walls, molding, and windows if necessary. If these are made of wood, hot, soapy water from a bucket should be used. If they are tiled, you can use the same cleaning product you used on your tub and sink. If you want a germ free cabinets and drawers use a hot soapy bleach water. Clean the ceiling. The aforementioned bleach-water solution in a spray bottle can be used to eliminate mildew spots on the ceiling as well.

Use a glass cleaner when cleaning the windows and mirror with paper towels. Don’t use soap, bleach and sponge on glass. It will not shine.
18. Mop the floor with a hot soapy bleach water. And mop it again and remove the slippery soap. Get out of the bathroom and clean the mop. Dispose the sponge that you use. Wash your hands and change your clothes to avoid contamination.

And there you have it! You’ve successfully battled a dirty job and won!

Recently, we heard the news about the milk scares in China that is said to be contaminated by Melamine. For our information, melamine can cause reproductive damage, or bladder or kidney stones, which can lead to bladder cancer if ingested. Thousands of children in China are listed to be positive in this disease and it even causes death to infants. But it was really shocking to know that milk products from China are exported all over the world. With that, all countries are busy inspecting China milk products for Melamine contamination.

Here are some of the countries affected with Melamine China Products:

1. Bangladesh
2. India
3. Japan
4. Malaysia
5. Myanmar
6. Philippines
7. Singapore
8. South Korea
9. Taiwan
10. Tanzania
11. Togo
12. Hong Kong
13. Bhutan
14. Britain
15. Brunei
16. Burundi
17. Canada
18. China
19. France
20. Gabon
21. Ghana
22. Yemen
23. Vietnam
24. Thailand

They are the countries importing milk products from China. Not only milk is imported from China. They also have candy, chocolate, yogurt, ice cream and other said to have luncheon meat and corned beef products. Some are still on testing process. For most countries, even non-dairy products are avoided. They just banned all China Imported products just to be safe. Melamine can also be in plastic containers, label materials, fertilizers which can carry through the food process and the food itself.

People from China are really affected by Melamine, especially children. I just hope that their government is doing their best to help those who are affected. And help those not to be affected by Melamine. As I’ve heard China is cooperating with other countries in pulling out their products in the market. They do the test also in their products to make sure what products are contaminated.

For those who are buying milk and other dairy and non-dairy product, please make sure that you read the label carefully. It is better to avoid China product at this moment until the China Melamine Contamination has not yet resolved. Better avoid it than be sorry later.
